Selkowe Campaign: Receives first union endorsement in race for 48th Assembly District
American Federation of Teachers Local 3220 (Teaching Assistants’ Association) Endorses Selkowe
MADISON – Today, community leader Vicky Selkowe received the first union endorsement in the campaign to replace Joe Parisi as the State Representative in the 48th Assembly District. Parisi resigned from the Assembly on April 14, 2011 after his landslide election as Dane County Executive.
The American Federation of Teachers Local #3220 (Teaching Assistants’ Association, TAA) announced its endorsement of Selkowe today, crediting her longstanding commitment to education and to protecting workers’ rights.
Citing Selkowe’s background as an organizer, policy advocate and union activist, TAA Political Action Committee chair Peter Rickman said , “We need a progressive champion who will be a leader fighting for working people. Vicky Selkowe is the pro-labor champion who will lead the fight for the progressive agenda, and who will get results to move us forward.”
The Teaching Assistants’ Association (TAA) is the nation’s oldest graduate student worker union and represents nearly 3,000 graduate student workers at the University of Wisconsin-Madison who provide the teaching, research and outreach missions of the Wisconsin Idea. This endorsement adds to a growing list of numerous community leaders and elected officials who have endorsed Selkowe just days after her official campaign announcement.
