Regular opportunities to get involved
Socials (second Thursdays and final Tuesdays): Come for food, drinks, and comradeship in a casual environment. Library Bar on the 2nd Thursday of every month, or join us and our sibling union UFAS (the union for faculty and academic staff) at Steenbock’s in the Discovery Center on the last Tuesday of the month.
General Membership Meetings (monthly; various times—see calendar below): The union’s main governance body, open to all members. Meet grad workers and learn what’s going on across campus, vote about the union’s ongoing priorities, and learn how to stand up for our rights! Also, eat pizza.
Stewards Council meetings (twice monthly; various times—see calendar below): How organizers from different departments keep in touch regularly. Discuss what’s going on in various departments, plan
Committees: Currently active committees include those for planning social events, political education, supporting international students, and running TAA communications. If you can’t find their next meeting on the calendar below, email taa@taa-madison.org to get plugged in
Department meetings: Many departments hold regular meetings to organize on shop-floor issues. If you don’t know who else in your department/program is in the union, reach out to stewco.chair@taa-madison.org to learn how to find—or build—organizing capacity in your department.
