University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee students Oppose Stripping Collective Bargaining Rights and UW System
University students in Milwaukee, joined by students from Madison, rallied for collective bargaining rights and preserving the UW System Monday, March 14th.
UWM United, a coalition of students, student organizations, faculty, and staff, held the “United We Stand” rally at the UW-Milwaukee campus. The rally highlighted UWM United’s desire to preserve the UW System, secure funding for higher education in Wisconsin, and oppose the governor’s Budget Repair Bill.
Speaking before a capacity crowd in UWM’s Spaights Plaza, rally speakers included fan favorites Senator Lena Taylor and Senator Chris Larson who urged listeners to not just wear buttons, but get directly involved in upcoming election campaigns. Additional speakers included Alderman Nik Kovac, Assemblyman Jon Richards, and Milwaukee Area Labor Council CEO Sheila Cochran. The rally was peaceful and no arrests were reported.
