We still heart UW: Rallying is for Lovers

Join fellow TAA members in a solidarity rally on Tuesday, February 14th to send a strong message to Gov. Walker and the Republicans that we still ♥ UW. We are calling for restoring funding for higher education in this state and collective bargaining rights for public sector workers.

The march will meet in front of the Memorial Union at 12:15 p.m. and lead to the State Capitol. We will enter the Capitol at 1:00 p.m. to meet up with the Solidarity Singers and take part in a short Sing-Along, followed by speakers who will address the current lapse and what we need to do to defend public education here in Wisconsin.

Last year, the I ♥ UW rally touched off a series of historic protests in defense of our rights as students, teachers, and workers. Over 1,000 Students, TAs, PAs, RAs, lecturers, faculty, staff and community members marched up State Street demanding better support for our learning and teaching conditions. For many of us, it was our first time experiencing the power of collective action in protection what we all knew was priceless: quality, affordable education and workers’ rights in Wisconsin.

This year, the TAA will march again to remind the state that we are still fighting for our rights as students and workers. After the December news of the catastrophic budget lapse that cut an extra $46 million from UW-Madison’s budget, it’s as clear that it is still up to us to ensure the excellence at UW-Madison and within the UW System.
