TAA Publishes Guide to Workplace Abuse Policy

UW–Madison policies about graduate students are complex. Some of this is necessary complexity — after all, many of us are employees and students at the same time, and need to be protected and supported in both those roles. But in many cases, grad policy is complex because administrators make it complex — to fit the software they use, to siphon money from students, to keep workers from having a say, or even just because they don’t know what’s written on their own forms.

As a union, we have each other’s backs. Generations of grad student activists have won important protections against abuse in our workplaces and classrooms, and nobody should have to go through bureaucratic mazes to take advantage of those protections.

A group of TAA volunteers did what the university won’t and made a quick chart to help you navigate policies for redressing abuse. Check it out below, or download the pdf.

If you have any questions about the chart, or about university policy in general, the Contract Enforcement Committee is standing by to help. Contact them at cec@taa-madison.org.
