Today we stand up to Scott Walker and the attacks on workers and our unions, on higher education, and on Wisconsin values. Today we take start to take back our state at the ballot box. Go out and vote to be a part of it!

The TAA has endorsed candidates for Spring Elections that share our values and who will stand up against the Walker agenda. These endorsements include:

JoAnne Kloppenburg for State Supreme Court

A vote for Kloppenburg is a vote against Walker. JoAnne Kloppenburg is a career public servant and former union activist who will bring fairness and a respect for the rule of law to the Court. She will provide the critical balancing vote to a Court with a current 4-3 conservative majority. Her opponent, former Republican Speaker of the Assembly David Prosser, has said he will help advance the Walker agenda. When they served together in the legislature, Prosser and Walker voted together 95% of the time. Prosser stands with Walker. Kloppenburg stands with us.

Joe Parisi for Dane County Executive

Parisi helped lead the opposition to Walker in his current position as a member of the State Assembly. A longtime TAA ally in the legislature, Parisi’s vision for Dane County stands in stark contrast to the Walker agenda. Parisi has a distinguished record as an advocate for and champion of public sector workers, unions and public services. His opponent, Eileen Bruskewitz, not only represents the Walker approach, she fully supports his attacks on us. Parisi will be a strong leader for the Dane County way of life and a visible champion to continue the fight against Walker’s agenda.

Sam Stevenson for Madison Common Council (District Two) / Kyle Szarzynski (District Eight) for Madison Common Council

Both Sam and Kyle are TAA allies from their time on campus. Both have been involved with the Student Labor Action Coalition (SLAC) and stood strongly with us during last year’s No New Seg Fees campaign. Activists for labor and higher education campaigns, Sam and Kyle will bring needed progressive vision and leadership to the City Council. They not only stand for our principles, they act on them too — both joined us in the Capitol during the occupation and continue to organize around our movement for social and economic justice. Sam and Kyle will continue to be allies as elected officials.

‘Yes’ on City of Madison Referendum / ‘Yes’ on Dane County Referendum

Corporations are not people and money is not speech. Part of a national movement to build a citizens’ campaign to amend the Constitution in the wake of the disastrous Citizens’ United U.S. Supreme Court decision, these referenda are about curbing corporate power in our democracy. With slightly different language, both referenda express the same concept that democracy is about real people, about citizens, and not about corporations and their money.
