April 2018 Voting Guide

April 3 General Election

A number of local and statewide offices are up for election in April. In addition, residents of Wisconsin will answer a ballot measure that seeks to eliminate the State Treasurer.

TAA-endorsed candidates

The TAA is pleased to have endorsed Marilyn Townsend for Dane County Circuit Court Judge, Branch 1. Our members were impressed with Marilyn’s experience, her values, and her extensive dedication to equal justice under the law. She has shown she is an impartial judge, a leader for efforts to reduce racial disparity in the Courts, and a champion for organized labor in Dane County. Remember to vote for Marilyn during the April election!

Dane County Board of Supervisors

Dane County is divided into 37 supervisory districts whose members are elected to two-year terms. The board functions in many ways as a county-level legislature. In 2018, only five of the seats on the Board are contested. However, many candidates in the non-contested races have provided questionnaire responses to the League of Womens’ Voters of Dane County.

Ballot measures

In the State of Wisconsin, ballot measures only occur when approved by two successive legislatures. In April, voters will vote on just one ballot measure.

Wisconsin Question 1: Elimination of state treasurer. Shall sections 1 and 3 of article VI and sections 7 and 8 of article X of the constitution be amended, and section 17 of article XIV of the constitution be created, to eliminate the office of state treasurer from the constitution and to replace the state treasurer with the lieutenant governor as a member of the Board of Commissioners of Public Lands?

Question 1 was passed by the Wisconsin State Legislature during the 2015 and 2017 sessions with broad Republican support and Democratic opposition

yes vote supports this constitutional amendment to eliminate the elected office of state treasurer
no vote opposes this constitutional amendment to eliminate the elected office of state treasurer
