TAA Voter Guide for 2020 Fall General Election

The lists below provide some specific information about how to register to vote, how to vote by mail, how to vote absentee, and how to vote in person. For more information, please read our Details on How to Vote in the Wisconsin 2020 General Election.

How To Vote

  1. Registering to vote: You can register online HERE by October 14. If you are a US citizen who has lived in Wisconsin for ten (10) or more days, then you are eligible to vote in this state. You can also register to vote at any of the in-person voting sites, including on election day.
  2. Voting by mail: You can also register to vote by mail using the link above!
  3. Voter ID: You will need a valid photo ID to vote in Wisconsin. Please see the PEC Voter Guide for more information about voter IDs.

How to return your absentee ballot:

  1. Mail it in by Oct 20 to allow two weeks for USPS delivery: Madison City Clerk’s Office, 210 Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, Room 103, City-County Building, Madison, WI 53703
    • Your ballot now must be delivered by Nov 3rd at 8:00pm.
  2. Drop it off at a Ballot Drop-Off Site!

How to vote in person:

  1. In-person absentee voting is available at multiple locations from Oct 20 to Nov 1
  2. Vote at your polling location on Nov 3, 7am – 8pm

TAA Endorses VOTE YES on MMSD School Referenda

At the Sep 22 general membership, the TAA endorsed Voting Yes on both MMSD funding referenda! Approving these referenda will provide $350 million in much-needed funding for our public school district by increasing property taxes annually by $77 per $100,000 in property value.

Democracy in the Park – Oct 3, 9am – 3pm – PASSED

City of Madison poll workers will be in every City of Madison community park, neighborhood park, and mini park to register voters, answer questions about the voting process, and accept the delivery of absentee ballots.  Poll workers will be wearing bright yellow vests and can be found by one of the Vote yard signs you are used to seeing at your polling place.  The poll workers will be wearing face masks, disinfecting pens and clipboards after each use, and frequently sanitizing their hands.

Voters who need to register should bring proof of address.  Absentee voters who still need to find a witness could have a poll worker serve as their witness.

At the end of the event, absentee envelopes will be secured with a tamper-evident seal.  Poll workers will document the seal number and the number of absentee ballots.  They will immediately take the ballots to the City Clerk’s Office, where both the seal number and the number of absentee ballots will be verified.  The Clerk’s Office will scan the barcode on each returned absentee envelope the following day, so voters will be able to check https://MyVote.wi.gov on Monday to verify that their ballot is ready to be counted at the polls.

In the case of inclement weather, the event will be held on Sunday instead.

Get Paid to Work to Polls

Madison needs poll workers! 

AFL-CIO is partnering with Power the Polls, and they are seeking more people to work the polls this November. Poll workers are essential to a fair, efficient voting process and election. You are eligible if you are a US Citizen (although Madison does not require disclosure of citizen status to work as Greeters), a county resident, 18 years or older, and a qualified elector. Compensation is $21.79/hour with a 1 hour online/phone training for $13.75. AFT / AFT-Wisconsin Endorsed Candidates

At the federal level, the American Federation of Teachers has endorsed Joe Biden for president. This is an issue comparison put together by AFT Votes. 

In addition to the national election, there are state legislative races on the ballot Nov 3. Our partners at A Better Wisconsin Together have launched the Progressive Voter Guide. Members and community partners can search the guide using their address to find the candidates in their district and learn about each candidate’s bio, policy positions, and endorsements from key allies including AFT-Wisconsin.
